FAQs

  • Yes! All lessons are held live over Zoom.

  • Not to worry! All lessons are recorded and then uploaded to a private youtube account where members of the tutoring group (and only members) can watch back any lessons they might have missed.

  • Absolutely! Complete Beginner’s Group (A) is designed for those who have never study Japanese before, including the Japanese scripts, hiragana and katakana.

Beginner’s Group (B) and Upper Beginner’s Group (C) are for those who have studied Japanese before.

  • Tutoring groups run in chunks of 5 lessons, each an hour long, held once a week every Sunday (Japan Standard Time) for 5 weeks. Check out the breakdown above to see the exact dates and times of the lessons for each group. —> If you live in a different time zone, be sure to double check the time difference and that the lessons fit your schedule.

  • Yes! The time difference is often an issue for learners so I’m currently creating an entirely recorded version of the tutoring group lessons. The content is entirely the same, the only difference being that the lessons are not live. You can also still get feedback on your homework and ask questions with these lessons. These lessons will be coming soon! Join my mailing list to be notified when they come out (release scheduled for the end of August 2023). Mailing list sign up is at the bottom of this page.

  • Yes. There is homework set after each lesson. Homeworks range from tasks such as learning one’s self-introduction by heart, writing some example sentences of one’s own, to fill in the blanks exercises for practicing particles etc. In the cases where there are set answers, I provide an answer sheet. If you were to write me example sentences, I would check these for you. The homeworks wouldn’t be compulsory, but highly recommended.

  • Yes! These tutoring groups are supposed to be fun and I’d like students to feel comfortable during lessons. Learners are welcome to join with their cameras off and microphones off for the entirety of lessons if that’s what they’d prefer. Just send me an email to rosiehubbardhandai@gmail.com before the lessons begin to let me know and I’ll be sure not to call on you to answer questions during the class.

  • The number of students in each tutoring group varies anywhere from 3-12 people. On average, Group A usually runs with around 10 students.

  • Yes! Lessons are held online for this reason, so that students no matter the location can take part, just be sure to check what time the lessons are held in your time zone.

“The lessons are really great, it's my favourite part of the week (I truly mean this). Her lessons don't just include grammar and vocab but she also shares experiences and daily usage of different words, which I appreciate a lot. To sum it up, I'd say that every question mark that existed in my head was removed within the lessons or via Email. Thank you!”

“I had a lot of fun during the group lessons and thought the homework each week was super helpful!

It was great being taught by someone who has experienced learning Japanese as a foreigner themselves and hearing some tips that usually can't be read in textbooks.

    ローズィせんせい、ありがとう ございました。”

“Rosie is a patient, kind and extremely knowledgeable teacher who made everyone feel very comfortable throughout the lessons. We covered an incredible amount in just five sessions, and I particularly enjoyed looking at sentence structures to get a stronger understanding of the language - much more useful than just blindly memorising phrases. Great class materials too - highly recommended!”
